The Heart of Compassion

Devotional

Compassion isn’t just feeling sorry for someone – it’s a deep, gut-wrenching response to another’s pain. When Jesus saw the widow who had lost her only son, He didn’t merely observe her grief from a distance. His heart was moved with such profound compassion that He was compelled to act. This reveals the very nature of God – He doesn’t stand aloof from our suffering but enters into it, feeling our pain as His own.

Bible Verse

“When the Lord saw her, his heart went out to her and he said, ‘Don’t cry.'” – Luke 7:13

Reflection Question

How does understanding Jesus’s deep compassion change the way you view your own struggles and pain?

Quote

His heart went out to her. This is not simply a oh, poor thing. But rather that compassion is a deep gut feeling. He ached in his belly and in his body for the pain this woman was experiencing.

Prayer

Father, thank You for Your deep compassion toward us. Help us to both receive and extend that same kind of compassion to others. Amen.
