Finding Peace in the Midst of Fear

Devotional

Fear has a way of paralyzing us, causing us to retreat into our own safe spaces. Just like the disciples who locked themselves away after Jesus’ crucifixion, we too can find ourselves imprisoned by our anxieties and uncertainties. Yet in these moments of deepest fear, Jesus meets us exactly where we are. He doesn’t demand that we first overcome our fears; instead, He enters our locked rooms and offers His peace.

Bible Verse

“On the evening of that first day of the week, when the disciples were together, with the doors locked for fear of the Jewish leaders, Jesus came and stood among them and said, ‘Peace be with you!'” – John 20:19

Reflection Question

What ‘locked rooms’ of fear are you currently hiding in, and how might Jesus be trying to meet you there with His peace?

Quote

“Does he scold them for their fear? Does he wag his finger and say, you unbelieving bozos, you all forsook me and left me. I’m done. No. The first words out of his mouth. Peace be with you.”

Prayer

Lord Jesus, thank you for meeting me in my fears with peace rather than condemnation. Help me to recognize Your presence even in my moments of greatest anxiety. Grant me the courage to unlock the doors I’ve closed out of fear. Amen.
